日本語漢字 is available on iPhone, iPad and Android, with version 1.2.0 on both platforms. Recall a reading or make a guess, type it in kana, and check the answer. Then follow one kanji into related words. An unfamiliar reading is a starting point for learning. TOKUNAGA Co., Ltd. is responsible for final design, testing and operation.

The free Web version is limited to Grade 1 and JLPT N5 practice. Unlock the complete study range in the iOS or Android app.

PURPOSE

Background
Recognizing a character is not the same as recalling its Japanese reading. The app combines recall, informed guesses and answer checking with vocabulary exploration through shared kanji.
Intended users
Japanese learners who want to recall readings, connect vocabulary and keep practicing at their own pace, even in short sessions
Purpose
Start from practice, search, a kanji detail or a saved record. Build paths such as 学生 → 学 → 学校, and return to readings that need more attention.

01 FLOW

Recall or guess, then check

See a kanji or word, recall its reading or make a guess, and type kana to check the answer. Follow one character into related words. An incorrect answer still gives you the correct reading and a chance to retry: learning is not limited to words you already know.

03 RANGE

Free and Full Version study ranges

The app's Free Version includes Grade 1 and JLPT N5 practice. The Full Version covers the complete Grade 1–6 and JLPT N5–N1 study range. The free Web version is limited to Grade 1 and N5. School-grade and JLPT classifications are project-maintained learning references, not official complete exam lists.

04 ACCESS

Purchases, ads and local records

The app's Free Version may show a banner ad. A one-time, non-consumable purchase unlocks the Full Version and removes ads on the same platform. Apple and Google purchases do not transfer between platforms. The Web learning page currently shows no ads.

  • No account or cloud sync; learning records stay on this device
  • Core learning, including kanji search and reading practice, works offline
  • Downloads, purchases, purchase restoration and ads may need a connection

These notes describe the original free Web tool, Kanji Branch Study. Its screens, interface languages and access rules differ from app version 1.2.0.

Search all 1,026 kanji in the Free Version. Within the available range, explore grouped readings and examples, then start practice from the detail.

Records, wrong answers and paths

Resume from history, retry missed words, and follow recent study paths to review the links between characters and vocabulary.

Three interface languages

Choose Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese or English. The study content is Japanese; the app does not include a Japanese interface.

Appearance and offline study

Follow the system appearance or select light or dark mode. Core learning, including kanji search and reading practice, is available offline.
